Franz Killerstudied conducting at the Master Conservatory in Nuremberg with Werner Andreas Albert from 1983 – 1988.
From 1988-1990, he took master classes in conducting with Professor Helmuth Rilling at the Bach Academy in Stuttgart.
From 1990 until 1992, additional studies in conducting led him to Professor Günter Wand in Hamburg. Parallel to leading various ensembles and orchestras, Killer became involved as the director of the New Musical Theater of Erlangen and a co-initiator of the "Six Days (of) Opera," which supported the performances of contemporary chamber operas.
Killer has directed numerous original and premiere performances in conjunction with broadcast productions. Among these are the 1994 production of "The Diary of Anne Frank" by Grigori Frid (German premiere), "Jason and Medea" by Volker Blumenthaler (original premiere) in 1996, Symphony No. 3 by Erkki Sven Tüür in 1997 (German premiere), The Works of Miriam Marbe in 2000, "The World is Flat" by H.Hartl (original premiere) in 2005, and Inspirations by Helmut Bieler (original premiere) in 2007. Killer's repetoire consists of compositions from all stylistic eras.
Since 2003, he has been the musical director of Nuremberg's Pocket Opera Company. In August of 2007, he took on the additional role of artistic director for this nationally- renowned musical theater group.
